- Be prepared for the next time.
- Resist the urge to fight.
Instead take some time to look closely at it. Listen to the hidden messages it has for you.
- Make an inventory.
What do you perceive as clutter? Is this your judgement or somebody else’s? Where do you find it? In which rooms; can you see it at once or do you try to hide it?
- Look for recurring patterns.
If you have been collecting stories, pictures, articles, items, that belong to a certain theme, you can be sure there is an important message.
- Acknowledge your inner power.
Most important: smile. Your inner power found these creative ways to express itself. Your soul tried to slip your almost forgotten dreams into your life, so they are not abandoned completely.
- Listen closely.
What is the message, these items bring to you? Is it something you only want to know more about or is it something that wants to be done and lived? Is it talking about change in your life, a change that already happened or a change the is happening right now?
- Find different ways to fulfil your dreams and desires.
How can you incorporate them consciously into your life? There are a lot of ways like reading more about it, visiting exhibitions, change something, find something symbolic, joining a group or a club that has the same interest, change your career. Find what suits you and your dream best.
- Take action.
Now you know why these things accumulated, you can decide what has to go, where some organising is needed and take goal-oriented action. Don’t loose these insights or “clutter” has to come back to remind you again. Act on what you found.
- Decide where everything has to go.
The things that were perceived as clutter can now find new places. This stack of papers with stories, articles, photos, could be the start of a collection, the beginning of a book, Your exercise wardrobe wants to be worn, books you have outgrown can be given away. Decide what has to go and what you want to stay. Honor what stays with you, by finding it a place.
- Be kind to yourself.
If you find yourself wanting to keep some of your memorabilia. Keep them. Remember: not everything has to be perfect. And that is perfect. For some decisions the time may not yet be right and some things just have to stay with you as witnesses to your unique life and your unique story.
- Be prepared for the next time.
And the next time you meet something that seems to be clutter, greet it like the good friend that it is. Ask, what its real, inner meaning is and act on it.
